Sea Lion Island is located 120 km southwest of Stanley and at 9.05km2 it is the largest of the Sea Lion Island Group, which also includes Rum, Brandy, Whiskey and the Sea Lion Easterly Islands. Sea Lion Island is the most southerly inhabited island in the Falkland archipelago at 52.43◦ south and 59.1◦ west.
Sea Lion Island can be reached directly from Stanley within 40 minutes, via the Falkland Islands Government Air Service who operate the inter-island air taxi service round the Falklands.
Once landed on Sea Lion Island’s purpose built airstrip the Lodge is only a minute’s walk. You will immediately see the gentoo penguin colony that is situated in front of the Lodge.

The National Geographic’s “Flying Devils” in 2000, followed the antics and captivating behaviour of the inquisitive and curious, but globally rare Striated Caracara.
Nigel Marven created “Killer Whale Islands” in 2007. He described the amazing scene as “a pod of orcas taught their young the hunting tactics on the southern elephant seals, which make these beautiful but deadly creatures the greatest predators in the southern seas”.
In 2007/2008 Sea Lion Island were host to the filming for “BBC Life” nature documentary series, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
The episode “Killer Whales vs Sea Lions” was filmed in 2012 for the Trials of Life filmed by BBC Earth and narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
In 2017, Silverback Films were hosted on the Island during filming “Our Planet”, the major 2019 landmark series and narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
